39 UK universities feature in global top 500 ranking

39 UK universities feature in the 2018 edition of the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), with the University of Cambridge leading the way in third overall.
The ARWU ranks the world’s top universities on six key indicators, including number of alumni, staff winning Nobel Prizes, highly cited research and the number of articles published in prestigious journals. Other UK universities ranked in the global top 100 include:
- University Oxford, 7th
- University College London, 17th
- Imperial College London, 24th
- University of Edinburgh, 32nd
- University of Manchester, 34th
- King’s College London, 56th
- University of Bristol, 74th
