Oxford and Cambridge best in the world for Arts and Humanities subjects in QS rankings

The University of Oxford and University of Cambridge have been named the best two universities in the world for the study of Arts and Humanities following the release of the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022.

Arts and Humanities covers the subject areas of Archaeology, Architecture, Art & Design, Classics & Ancient History, English Language & Literature, History, Linguistics, Modern Languages, Performing Arts, Philosophy, Theology and Divinity & Religious Studies.

The University of Cambridge is ranked first in the world for Archaeology, whilst the University of Oxford was ranked number one for the study of English Language & Literature, Modern Language and Theology, Divinity & Religious Studies.

The QS World University Rankings by Subject scores universities around the world on their reputation with academics and employers, as well as research impact. Five key components are used:

  • Academic reputation
  • Employer reputation
  • Research citations per paper
  • H-index (measuring both the productivity and impact of the published work of a scientist or scholar)
  • International Research Network (by broad-faculty area)
